Stone Phillips is an American journalist who began his career as a journalist from 1986. He is best known as a reporter and television correspondent, most likely best known for his former position on NBC News’ ‘Dateline NBC’.

STONE PHILLIPS: BIO, FAMILY, CAREER
The journalist was born on December 2, 1954 in Texas City, Texas, United States. He was born as Stone Stockton Phillips to parents Victor and Grace Phillips. His father was a Monsanto chemical engineer and his mother a school teacher. He has two siblings; brother, Victor III and sister Minta. The siblings were raised in the Claymont section of Ballwin, Missouri. Additionally, he has Scottish ancestry.
Regarding his education, he was an honor student at Parkway West High School in Ballwin, Missouri. While in high school, he also played as the starting quarterback for the school football team. Later, he joined Yale University and continued to excel in academia and athletics. In his college days, he played for the Yale Bulldogs Squad which had won the Ivy League football championship. At that time he was a member of Yale’s Scroll and Key secret society. Additionally, he received the university’s prestigious F. Gordon Award for outstanding academic and athletic leadership. In 1977, he graduated with honors and obtained a bachelor’s degree in philosophy.
STONE PHILLIPS: CAREER AND LIFE ACHIEVEMENTS
After graduating, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he began working as a math and remedial reading teacher at the Fulton County Juvenile Detention Center. In addition, he did odd jobs as a waiter while preparing an entry news station at WXIA-TV, NBC’s local affiliate. After working as a reporter, writer, and broadcast producer in Atlanta, he landed a job with ABC News in 1980. He served as editor of the Washington, D.C. news burea
Later in 1982, he became an on-air correspondent for ABC. He has covered major events, including the war in Lebanon, the exodus of Vietnamese boat people in the mid-1980s, and Rajiv Gandhi’s election campaign following the assassination of his mother, Indira Gandhi. In 1986, he was promoted to a regular position on ABC News 20/20 magazine. In 1992, after working twelve years in the network, he left to join the NBC network.
However, he worked with NBC until his time period for the show “Dateline NBC”. He served the show with his co-host, Jane Pauley. During his time with NBC, he also hosted Weekend Magazine with Stone Phillips. Also, he conducted some of the notable interviews such as US Army soldier Lynndie England, serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and Russian President Boris Yeltsin. However, the network did not renew their new $7 million contracts. he therefore worked with the network until July 2, 2007.
He was also a guest on the first episode of “The Colbert Report” hosted by Stephen Colbert as well as “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart ”. In 2012, he contributed reporting for PBS NewsHour. In 2013, he produced and hosted the show “Moving with Grace” on PBS stations. He also reported on the golf course’s water use for the Golf Channel during the same year.

Phillips is married to his wife Debra Del Toro-Phillips. Debra as a child moved to New York, but is of Puerto Rican descent. She has a successful career as a fashion designer. After experiencing success in her career, she returned to college where she earned a master’s degree in social work. Together the couple had welcomed their first child, son Streeter Phillips in 1988. Although after seven years they had a daughter in August 1995, she died the same day.
He currently resides in New York with his family. Additionally, he hasn’t shared much information about his personal life or past relationships. Also, the reporter was once rumored when he left NBC News. But then, he was never involved in any controversy or violence in his personal life.
