Steve Carver
He stood out in the field of action, especially in front of films starring Chuck Norris. The director Steve Carver died on January 8, 2021, at the age of 75, of a heart attack, at his residence in Los Angeles, according to Rob Word, screenwriter, producer and longtime collaborator of his.
Born in Brooklyn on April 5, 1945, Steve Carver attended the High School of Music & Art in Manhattan, the University at Buffalo, and Cornell University before earning a Master’s degree at Washington University in St. Louis. Following a successful photography exhibition, he was recruited as a contributor to publications such as Architectural Digest and National Geographic and as a staff member of United Press International. In 1970, he moved to Los Angeles in 1970 to study film at the American Film Institute, where he directed and produced a 27-minute short, The Tell-Tale Heart , which adapted the eponymous story by Edgar Allan Poe , known in Spain as ” The Tell-Tale Heart”.
He made his feature film debut at American International Pictures, Roger Corman ‘s company , which recruited him for The Arena (1974), a gladiator film set in ancient Rome with Pam Grier , which had music by the maestro Ennio Morricone . It was followed by Unbridled Mom , with Angie Dickinson , Capone , with Ben Gazzara , and Acero , with George Kennedy .
Faced with other Corman collaborators, such as Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola , who later turned to big-budget cinema, Steve Carver continued in the field of series B. He stood out directing two films at the service of Chuck Norris , McQuade, Wolf solo and Blow for Blow . He was also responsible for River of Death , which starred one of the few ’80s movie stars even more deadpan than Norris, none other than Michael Dudikoff .
In 1995, Carver opened The Darkroom, a photo lab in Venice that developed archival techniques for preserving historical images for private collectors and museums. She has not disclosed any information about her private life, except that she is survived by a son.
