Stephen Swid was an American businessman, investor, and music licensing innovator. He had worked for several companies, an independent film distributor and the 21 Club. He was best known for transforming Sesac into a music industry influencer.
Additionally, he began his career as a Wall Street analyst and fund manager. He then teamed up with an associate, Marshall Cogan, and took over a series of businesses. However, the successful businessman died at the age of 78 on October 6, 2019 at his home in Bronx, New York. Additionally, his family reported that his death was caused by complications from frontotemporal degeneration.

The entrepreneur was born on October 26, 1940 as Stephen Claar Swid in Manhattan, New York. He was born as the son of Dave and Selma Swid. Additionally, his father was a trucking executive who helped build the New England Thruway. He has an American nationality and belongs to a Jewish family.
Regarding his education, he graduated from Ohio State University. Subsequently, he became the founder and senior partner of an investment limited partnership, Swid Investors. At the time, he also became the general partner of the private management firm City Associates, a senior investment officer at Oppenheimer Funds and a securities analyst at the Dreyfus Fund.For twelve years, he was co-president and co-CEO of Knoll International. He then bought CBS in 1986, which would later become the start of SBK Entertainment World. Possibly he was chairman and CEO of the company from November 1986 to May 1989. He was also chairman and CEO of Westview Press (1990-1995) as well as Spin (1989-1997).
Apart from that, he was an active supporter of arts and education. He had served as a trustee of the Horace Mann School and executive vice chairman of the Lenox School Board of Trustees, both located in New York City. Additionally, he had also served as a Trustee and Chairman of the Executive and Financial Committee of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.
