A South African Woman identified as Gosiame Thamara Sithole, has reportedly welcomed 10 babies at once — two more than what was revealed by ultrasound results during pregnancy.
According to IOL news site, Sithole, a 37-year-old woman, from Ekurhuleni metropolitan municipality, Gauteng in South Africa, gave birth to the decuplets — seven boys and three girls — through a cesarean section on Monday.
It was gathered that Sithole and Teboho Tsotetsi, her husband, were expecting eight babies, with the remaining said to have been missed during the scan due to the fact that they were tucked inside the wrong tube.
Speaking to another News outlet, Tsotetsi said Sithole gave birth to their bundles of joy 29 weeks into her pregnancy adding that her conception was natural as she was not on any fertility treatment.
“It’s seven boys and three girls. She was seven months and seven days pregnant. I am happy. I am emotional. I can’t talk much. Let’s talk again in the morning please,” Tsotetsi said.
Sithole who reportedly has six-year-old twins before welcoming the babies is said to have broken the Guinness Record for the most children birthed by one woman at once.
Sithole who has been interviewed by the media outlet prior to the delivery said that she had been in a state of disbelief when the doctors told her earlier this year that she was expecting six children (sextuplets) before further scans showed that it was in fact octuplets.
Two others could not be detected initially because they were inside the wrong tube, Sithole said.
“I am shocked by my pregnancy. It was tough at the beginning. I was sick. It was hard for me. It’s still tough but I am used to it now. I don’t feel the pain anymore, but it’s still a bit tough. I just pray for God to help me deliver all my children in a healthy condition, and for me and my children to come out alive. I would be pleased about it,” Sithole said.
In a similar report, last month, a 25-year-old woman in Mali identified as Halima Cisse has given birth to nine babies making history as one of the few women in the world to deliver nonuplets.
Malian Ministry of Health disclosed that Halima Cisse gave birth to five girls and four boys through the cesarean section
According to a statement by the Ministry of Health in the West African country, Halima was expected to give birth to seven babies, but an ultrasound did not detect two more babies in her womb.
The 25-year-old had been under the watchful eyes of doctors in Bamako for two weeks but was transferred to Morocco for specialized care under the orders of interim President Bah Ndaw
Mali Health Minister Fanta Siby said the proud mother and her children were doing well and would return home in several weeks’ time.
