Souad Massi  (سعاد ماسي) is an Algerian singer born on August 23, 1972 in the district of Bab El-Oued in Algiers and originally from Boghni wilaya of Tizi Ouzou. She grew up in a modest family who played music and loved it deeply. Thus, Souad Massi is immersed in all kinds of musical cultures: traditional songs but also jazz, pop and rock. At the same time, she studied town planning to become an engineer. Learned the guitar at the School of Fine Arts in Algiers, also taking an interest in Arab-Andalusian music. Souad Massi joins music groups. In a flamenco band, then in a hard rock band, being a guitarist herself.
