Born in Barcelona in 1976, Salomón Shang was the grandson of the clowns “Los Rudi Llata”, with whom he toured the world in the circus during his childhood. As a child he became an assiduous practitioner of martial arts. He studied theater in Paris at l’Ecole Jacques Lecocq, film writing at the San Antonio de los Baños Film School and the New York Film Academy. He also studied film directing at the Center d’Estudis Cinematogràfics de Catalunya, in Barcelona.
He made his film debut in 2002 with Después de la luz , where the characters who survive a fictitious war settle in the same building. It is followed by titles such as Carl Justav Jung , The Tarkovski Zone and Cinéclub .
Salomón Shang was also involved in the field of distribution, founding Indisa, with Alberto del Val, who brought El arka rusa , by Alexandr Sokurov , to Spanish cinemas . In addition, he was an exhibitor, since the aforementioned company acquired the Casablanca cinemas in Barcelona.
His last work was the documentary El milagro , about a dump in Peru where more than 30,000 people live. This work caused his name to jump into the media, when he was accused of trying to buy votes for the Gaudí awards. He was then accused of illegally collecting subsidies, worth up to four million euros.
From that moment on, Salomón Shang stayed out of production and moved to Palma de Mallorca, where he taught scriptwriting courses. At one point, the Generalitat tried unsuccessfully to find him because he had been penalized almost 6,000,000 euros for falsifying the numbers of copies and viewers of his films to pocket aid.
