Sofía Vergara was born in Barranquilla on July 10, 1972, to a Roman Catholic family. Her mother, Margarita Vergara de Vergara was a homemaker while her father, Julio Enrique Vergara Robayo was a cattle rancher. Sofía Vergara was nicknamed “Toti” by her five siblings and cousins.
Sofía Vergara studied Dentistry for three years at the National University of Columbia but dropped out about two semesters away from completing her degree. She decided to pursue Modeling and Show business instead.
When her brother, Rafael was murdered during an attempt to kidnap him in 1998, she emigrated to the United States and settled in Miami, Florida. She has an adopted sister who is also her cousin, Sandra Vergara, and she is also a tv actress in the United States.

Sofía Vergara married her high school sweethart, Joe Gonzalez at the age of 18 and they have a son, Manolo together. Manolo was born in September 1991 and the couple divoced in 1993. Later on, she went into a relationship with Nick Loeb whom she got engaged to after two years of dating. On May 23, 2014, she announced that their engagement has been called off.
