Social media should verify all users with their government approved IDs — Idris Elba

English actor, and producer, Idris Elba has suggested that all social media platforms should verify all users with their government-approved IDs.

The actor made the suggestion on his Instagram profile based on the recent issue of cyberbullying going on in the United Kingdom due to the Euro 2020 final loss

The Three Lions quartet, Jadon Sancho, Bukayo Saka, Raheem Sterling, and Marcus Rashford, were recently subjected to racist abuse on social media following England’s penalty shootout defeat in the Euro 2020 final.

The giant social network, Twitter confirmed that it removed over 1,000 racist comments on its platform, in less than 24 hours after the Euro final.

the British actor stated that if Public figures have to prove their identity on social media so that they can get the verification mark then everyone has to do the same.

People in the Public eye get verified on social media, (symbolized by a blue tick), the process of verification requires them to prove their identity so everyone knows who is speaking.

SOCIAL MEDIA COMPANIES SHOULD MAKE THIS MANDATORY FOR ALL USERS

Currently, social media is like boarding a plane and not having to show I.D THAT would never happen, he stated on Instagram.

He further said that if racists are supported by a veil of privacy and secrecy then social media is not a safe space

If cowards are being supported by a veil of privacy and secrecy then social media is not a safe space. It is an aeroplane that allows travelers to wear balaclavas

If cowards want to sprout rhetoric then say it with your name, not your username.
