Slim Riahi (Arabic: سليم الرياحي ‎), born July 13, 1972 in Bizerte, is a Tunisian businessman and politician , with British nationality.
He is first known for having chaired the African Club from 2012 to 2017. And currently, he is the founder and president of the Free Patriotic Union (UPL).

He has lived and raised in Libya since 1980 following his family’s exile there. Slim Riahi’s father was an Arab nationalist who opposed President Bourguiba, then President Ben Ali.
He studied management in Tripoli, Libya.

Slim Riahi acquired British citizenship when he moved to London.

The businessman returned to Tunisia after the 2011 revolution and the flight of the President of the Republic at the time, with a great desire to participate in the political life of the country.
He founded a political party on May 19, 2011, the Free Patriotic Union, which presents a modern and economically liberal program.

He also submitted the only candidacy for the presidency of the African Club in June 2012 which made him the president of the club, announcing five years later his resignation from the post of presidency because of his legal situation.

His resignation was not only in sports, in politics too, he announced that he is resigning from his post as president of the Free Patriotic Union for reasons of concern with the justice system as well.

In 2018, Slim Riahi returned to the political scene in Tunisia with the merger of his party with the party of Nidaa Tounes.

Slim Riahi accused the head of government and the director general of the presidential guard of “conspiring against the internal security of the state”. The Attorney General of Military Justice has decided to dismiss the complaint filed by the Secretary General of Nidaa Tounes Slim Riahi

In February 2019, Slim Riahi left after only four months of taking office.

Slim Riahi’s career

Businessman Slim Riahi built his fortune in oil production, power generation, aviation and real estate.

He returned to Tunisia after the 2011 revolution determined to gain power.

Slim Riahi first participated in political life by positioning himself at the center of the Tunisian political spectrum with his party the Free Patriotic Union and by presenting his candidacy for the presidential election of 2014.
