Nigerian rapper and singer-songwriter, Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, has taken to social media to lambast Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), branding it the “worst bank in Nigeria.”

His outburst comes amid the ongoing saga surrounding the controversial arrest of social media activist VeryDarkMan, who was allegedly apprehended at a GTBank branch in Abuja under circumstances yet to be officially clarified by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) or the bank.

In a post shared via X (formerly Twitter), Skales recalled his late mother’s ordeal with GTBank, alleging that the bank frequently made unauthorized deductions from her salary account during her years of service.

GTB @gtbank is a horrible bank… the worst bank in Nigeria,” he wrote. “I wish my late mom was alive to tell you what they did to her salary… how her money was lost, and I had to beg her by compensating her because she wouldn’t quit her job until she retired… do not bank with GTBank.”

The artist’s remarks have reignited public criticism of the bank, with several social media users flooding the comment section to share similar grievances and personal banking horror stories.

One user, @MattMax01, responded: “Same happened to mine too, I was the one that even accompanied her to go open it back then. My mom shut down the account later lol.”

Another user, @plato_vince, recounted: “My account still reads minus till date because I woke up one morning to a debit alert of 300k… After all back and forth, they keep insisting I bought something online… then said it was a delayed debit. Debit by who??”

The controversy surrounding GTBank has intensified in recent days following reports that VeryDarkMan was arrested shortly after visiting the bank. While some sources claim he was taken away by EFCC officials, neither the anti-graft agency nor GTBank has issued a formal statement, leaving the public in the dark.
