Siya Kolisi is a South African professional rugby player. He is currently the captain of the South Africa national team since 2013. In addition, he has played club rugby for the Sharks in Super Rugby since 2021 and in the Western Province in the Currie Cup since 2011.
He had also played as a member of South Africa Under-20 and had participated in the 2010 and 2011 IRB World Junior Championships. Additionally, he represented the South African team in international matches and has tasted victory in the 2019 Rugby World Cup final against England. The athlete was born on June 16, 1991 as Siyamthanda Kolisi in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He grew up in Zwide, Ibhayi under the care of his grandmother Nolulamile after his mother died in 2009. He was born to his mother Phakama and father Fezakele. But it seems that her parents separated after years and have two half-siblings on her mother’s side.
For his education, he attended Gray High School after earning a rugby scholarship. Before that, at the age of 12, he had already impressed scouts at a youth tournament in Mossel Bay and then offered a scholarship to Gray Junior in Port Elizabeth.

He started his senior years for Western Province against Golden Lions in the 2011 Vodacom Cup. Additionally, he participated in the 2010 and 2011 IRB World Junior Championships. Later, he made his professional debut in June 2013 in Springbok against Scotland. On February 20, 2017, he was selected as the new captain of the Stormers. Following this, in May 2018, he became the Springboks’ first black captain in their 126-year history.
Additionally, he had also served on the directors of MyPlayers Rugby which is the player organization of all professional rugby players in South Africa. He had also played two matches in the 2015 Rugby World Cup against Japan and Samoa with the South African team.

He married the indigenous Grahamstown woman named Rachel Kolissi in 2016. She previously worked as a marketing manager but quit her job to take on full-time motherhood duties.
