Silvio Horta
He was behind “Betty”, one of the great successes of American television. The body of Silvio Horta, 45, was found in a Miami hotel with a shot to the head on January 7, 2020. Authorities considered suicide.
Born on August 14, 1974, in Miami (Florida) Silvio Horta descended from a Cuban exile couple. He studied at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he majored in film. In 1998 he wrote the teen horror film Urban Legend , the success of which led to a sequel, Urban Legend 2 , also scripted by him.
After several chapters of The Chronicle, he created the 13-part science fiction series Jake 2.0, where after suffering an accident, a young man becomes a ‘technological’ man with a privileged brain, made up of thousands of microchips. He starts working as a secret agent for the National Security Agency behind the back of his family. But Silvio Horta triumphed above all with Betty , the American adaptation of the Colombian telenovela I am Ugly Betty , which established actress America Ferrera . Shortly before her death, he had sold the script for the television movie Move , a biopic by choreographer Laurieann Gibson , to Fox .
