Who is Jyoti Amge?
Born on December 16, 1993, in Nagpur, central India, Jyoti is a 29-year-old Indian actress who has been recognized by the Guinness Book of Records for being the shortest woman alive. Prior to this record, she was the shortest living teenager as of 2009, with a height of 61.95cm (2 ft) at the time.

At the moment, Jyoti Amge’s height is 2 ft 4 in and she continues to live a normal life, featuring in various movies and Television shows.
How Jyoti Amge Became the Shortest Woman in the World
According to Amge’s mother, Ranjana, she had an average stature until the age of five when it became obvious that her growth wasn’t normal and it was a result of some kind of disorder. Later on, it was realized that she was suffering from achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism that hindered her from growing beyond a particular height.
She gained global recognition in 2009 when she appeared on Fuji TV’s “Bikkuri Chojin 100 Special No.2”. She was measured by doctors on the TV programme and she was found to be 2 ft tall, making her the shortest teenager alive at the time. She was only 15 at the time.
Later that year, she featured in a video shoot for a song by Bhangra star Mika Singh. She equally featured in a Channel 4 documentary “Bodyshock”, in an episode titled “Two Foot Tall Teen”. Amge’s self-esteem is envied by many as she wears her badge proudly and even says “I feel popular, special and important”. She has however revealed that the record/title contributed greatly in acknowledging herself. Here’s what she says: “Getting this record has made me feel better about myself.”.
Shortest Woman in the World
On December 16, 2011, Jyoti Amge became the shortest woman in the world, after clocking 18 years the same day. She was measured by an orthopaedic consultant, Dr Manoj Pahukar at the Wockhardt Superspeciality Hospital in Nagpur, India. The proceedings were monitored by Guinness World Record adjudicator, Rob Molloy. She is 2 ft 4 in tall.
