Shettima decorates new acting IGP, Egbetokun

In a surprising turn of events, Kayode Egbetokun was announced as the new acting Inspector-General of Police, and within 24 hours, he was officially decorated with his new rank by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the State House. The ceremony, held at 1 pm, was attended by prominent figures such as National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum Hope Uzodinma, President’s Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and the immediate past IGP, Usman Alkali.

Although it was revealed that the new acting IGP is due for retirement in 2024, little is known if the presidency will choose to make him the boss of the police force, extend his tenure as the acting chief of the police force or retire him when he is due for retirement. It is worth noting that the previous administration chooses to extend the service year of the former IGP before he retired.

Furthermore, after the ceremony, the newly appointed police chief spoke to journalists and expressed his readiness to tackle Nigeria’s internal enemies, stating that he feels like a tiger prepared to defend the nation. He is scheduled to assume office at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

The President, Bola Tinubu, made significant changes to the leadership positions on Monday night, approving the immediate retirement of the Chief of Defence Staff, all the service chiefs, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali, and the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali.

Tinubu appointed Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as the National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. C.G Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff, Maj. Gen. T. A Lagbaja as the Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral E. A Ogalla as the Chief of Naval Staff, AVM H.B Abubakar as the Chief of Air Staff, DIG Kayode Egbetokun as the Acting Inspector-General of Police, and Maj. Gen. EPA Undiandeye as the Chief of Defence Intelligence.
