- Jennifer Kendal (1956–1984) – English actress Jennifer Kendal was part of her father’s traveling theater company, Shakespeareana . The couple first met in Calcutta (now known as Kolkata) in 1956 at the Prithvi Theater run by Shashi’s father. They married in 1958 and had three children, Kunal Kapoor, Karan Kapoor and Sanjana Kapoor. Shashi suffered a personal blow when he lost Jennifer to colon cancer in 1984. His life began to shorten after the death of his wife, and he suffered from an illness and took alcohol and food as vices.

- Shashi Kapoor started acting at the tender age of 4. He has acted in around 160 films, 12 of which are in English and 148 in Hindi. He has appeared as a solo lead in around 61 films and in 53 multi-star films.
- Interestingly, Shashi was paid more in multi-star films than co-actors Vinod Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Jeetendra, Rishi, and Randhir Kapoor.
- In 1980 he started his own company called Film Valas to divert some of the money he made in Bollywood into films.
- He was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015 . However, he was too unwell to travel to New Delhi to get it. He was the third member of the family to receive the award, after his father Prithviraj Kapoor and older brother Raj Kapoor.
- Shashi was awarded the highest Indian civil honour, the Padma Bhushan Award in 2011.
- He never brought his work home and made sure to have breakfast with his family every morning. He took Sundays off work and spent time at home with his family.
- Shashi Kapoor planned his filming dates to coincide with his children’s school holidays to spend time with his family.
- He worked rigorously, completing almost 6 shifts in the late 1970’s and 1980’s.

Prithvi Theaters, a traveling theater company, was founded in 1944 by Prithviraj Kapoor. It consisted of 150 members and had to be closed after the death of Prithviraj Kapoor. The café is known for art lovers and artists. Shashi’s daughter Sanjana later took over the management.
- Shashi Kapoor admitted to having very fewfriends. His circle of friends from the film industry included actors such as Nanda, Pran, Dharmendra, Dev Anand, Ismail Merchant, Rajesh Khanna and Sanjeev Kumar.
- He was not afraid and admitted that he slept peacefully at night.
- He didn’t like gaining weight and even hated his drinking habits and his way of being easygoing and overly affectionate.
- Due to his drinking and eating habits, he suffered a mild heart attack that led to partial paralysis. He also had dementia.
- He underwent bypass surgery in 2014 and cataract surgery in 2012.
