- As a child, he dreamed of becoming a fireman. However, after seeing King Yellowman perform, he felt drawn to the music.
- In his free time he likes to engage in art. He is quite good at painting, sketching and drawing.
- Shaggy began taking singing lessons in 1987 and was discovered the following year while performing on the street with a group of his friends.
- He served in the United States Marine Corps. He served with the Field Artillery Battery in the 10th Marine Regiment in the Gulf War.
- With the US Marine Corps, he managed to rise to the rank of Lance Corporal. However, he was demoted twice during his stint in the Army.
- While serving in the Marine Corps, he was given the opportunity to improve his singing voice.
- In March 2007 he was engaged to perform the official anthem of the ICC Cricket World Cup, The Game of Love and Unity , at the tournament’s opening ceremony.
