Serj Tankian is an Armenian-American musician, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, best known as the vocalist, keyboardist and sometimes rhythm guitarist in a metal band System with a Down formed in 1994. Their albums achieved commercial success and large audiences, and 3 out of 5 albums achieved took first place in the Billboard 200 list. The band was also nominated for several Grammy Awards and the song BYOB won the Grammy Award for “Best Hard Rock Performance of 2006” beating Nine Inch Nailsby Trent Reznor. The band had gone on hiatus in November 2010, but on January 8, 2015 they announced that recording and releasing a new album after their tour was a possibility. The debut solo album by System Down metal band had the exact same name – System Down and was released on June 30, 1998 under record labels Columbia Records and American Recordings .
He also had a notable solo career with his debut album as a solo artist, Wahlt die Toten , released on October 22, 2007. - He is very passionate about human rights and social justice, which was reflected in the lyrics of his songs, in which he addressed many of the social issues that have arisen over the past century – war, terrorism, genocide, overpopulation and America’s prison system.
