Sean was born in Kingston, Jamaica on January 9, 1973 to Garth and Frances Henriques. Her father Garth Henriques died on May 24, 2018 after spending two months in hospital battling an undisclosed illness. His mother Frances Henriques is a well-known painter.

Paul comes from a family that is known for swimming, in fact it seems everyone in the family had an innate talent for swimming. His grandfather was part of the first Jamaican men’s national water polo team, his father played water polo for the same team in the 1960s and competed in long distance swimming competitions and his mother was a swimmer. butterfly.

Career

Before fully embarking on music, Sean tried his hand at other things. He worked as a bank teller and also as a chef at a local restaurant.

His journey to fame in the music business began in the late 1990s when he was scouted by Jeremy Harding’s brother (Jeremy Harding later became Paul’s manager and producer) who told Jeremy that he had spotted someone at a small open mic party in Kingston who looked exactly like the famous dancehall DJ and toaster Super Cat.

When they met (Paul and Harding), it was a meeting that changed the budding young singer’s life forever. First, the encounter spawned the song Baby Girl, and then her first appearance in 1998’s film Belly. He also collaborated with DMX & Mr Vegas for the film’s soundtrack.

In 2000, he released his first album, titled First Step with VP Records. The album quickly peaked at number two on the Top Reggae Album charts. In 2002 he released his second album Dutty Rock, with tracks like Give Me Light and Be Busy which became a big hit, the album sold over six million copies worldwide.

Give Me the Light, was the biggest hit on the Billboard Hot 100, Mind Your Business, was nominated for Best Rap Song of the Year at the Grammies and the album itself, won Reggae Album of the Year at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards in 2004. Soon it was heard on Beyoncé’s single. Baby Boy which was number 1 in the United States that year, and then Blu Cantrell’s Breathe – these collaborations are said to have boosted his notoriety and reputation in the United States and around the world. He has also collaborated with other well-known artists like Snoop Dogg, Rihanna, Akon, Keyshia Cole and many more.
