SCOTT SIMS: EARLY CHILDHOOD, EDUCATION, FAMILY

Sims was born in 1955 in New Jersey and raised in California. Likewise, at the age of four, he took his first riding lesson and bought his first horse at the age of seven, with his own money. Shortly after graduating from high school, he received his pilot’s license. He earned a BS in Zoology from the University of California, Davis in 1979. SCOTT SIMS: VETERINARY CAREER

Sims was a large and small animal veterinarian. Shortly after graduating from the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine in 1984, he co-founded the Davis Wildlife Care Association. He also founded a veterinary clinic in Novato, California called Pegasus Veterinary Clinic. In 2001, after taking a vacation in Honolulu in 2000, Sims and her family moved to Kauai, Hawaii. Similarly, Sims ran his clinic from his farm, worked primarily with two longtime employees, Dia and Ella, and saw about 20 patients a day. His clinic consisted of one of 20 veterinary clinics on Kauai, but most of them specialized in dogs and did not do house calls.

When he was diagnosed with bladder cancer, he was in talks for a second season. The Sims had a book written, Eating Horses Don’t Die.

SCOTT SIMS: PERSONAL LIFE AND WIFE

The Sims had no girlfriend or children but stayed with his gray parrot, Oliver. He founded the Pegasus Foundation in Kauai to create a nonprofit “Pay What You Can” animal hospital. Eventually, Sims, the barefoot Kauai vet who turned his love of animals into a reality show, died after a two-month battle with bladder cancer at age 59.
