Early life and education of Scott Rudin
Scott Rudin was born on July 14, 1958 in New York City. Scott was raised in a Jewish family in the Long Island town of Baldwin. He is the older of two brothers. He was never that close to his family nor did he like his childhood. He once said: ‘I have never been nurtured.’ He also said that he doesn’t get along with his mother. Speaking specifically about his childhood, he said, “I was a Long Island Jewish kid who didn’t want to be a Long Island Jewish kid. It has no mystery. It’s pretty self explanatory.’
He completed his studies on Long Island, but ran away at the age of 18, which turned out to be forever lonely.
Scott Rudin’s career
He began assisting theater producer Kermit Bloomgarden at the age of 16, and later assisted other producers such as Robert Whitehead and Emanuel Azenberg. He worked as a casting agent instead of receiving a scholarship from Brown University and within a few years he launched his own casting company. In 1980, after doing some Broadway shows like Annie, Mike Nicholas, The Wanderers, etc., he moved to Los Angeles.
There he worked at Edgar J. Scherick Associates where he was a producer on many films including I’m Dancing As Fast As I Can , the Oscar-winning documentary ‘ Makes Me Feel Like Dancing’ and the NBC miniseries ‘ Little Gloria & hellip; .. Happy at last . He also formed Scott Rudin Productions, but left it and joined 20th Century-Fox as an executive producer. At the age of 29 in 1986, he became the president of the production house. But pretty soon Scott left the hit and revived Scott Rudin Productions partnering with Paramount .
The partnership produced such hit films as Pacific Heights , Regarding Henry , The Addams Family , Tate Little Man , and The Sister Act . In 1992 Scott signed with Tri-star pictures. He later moved to the stage, winning a Tony Award for Best Musical for his production of His Passion. He continued to receive Tony Awards for such productions as Copenhagen , The Goat, or Who’s Sylvia? , Doubt , The Children ‘s Story and Book of Mormon .
He has worked in the production of other films such as Clueless , the first Wife and Ransom Club with Paramount before moving on to Tri-Star pictures. Other popular movies produced by Scott Rudin are The Social Network , No Country for Old Men , The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo , The Truman Show , Captain Philips etc. His most profitable film to date is The Firm with a worldwide gross of $270,248,367.
