The actress was born on October 1, 1986 in Setagaya, Japan under the zodiac sign Libra. She is the only child of actor Masaki Kanda and pop singer Seiko Matsuda. Additionally, her paternal grandmother Teruko Asahi (1924-2001) was a former actress. She had Japanese nationality and belongs to Caucasian ethnicity.

She had started her career in the Japanese entertainment industry when she was a student at a Japanese school in Los Angeles in 1999.
