She starred with Gordon Scott in “Tarzan’s Great Adventure” and appeared opposite Clark Gable in “A King for Four Queens.” The actress specializing in adventure films Sara Shane died at the age of 94, on July 31, 2022, on the Gold Coast of Australia, her family announced.

Born in St. Louis on May 18, 1928, Elaine Sterling—real name Sara Shane —worked as a model in her hometown and in New York before leaving for California, where she signed with MGM and appeared in Easter Parade , with Fred Astaire , and  Neptune ‘s Daughter , opposite Esther Williams . When this production company did not want to renew her contract, her agent placed ads in the main entertainment publications, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. One ad of her showed her from the waist up, and another of hers showed her legs, while one text read “put them both together and you get one lovely girl.”

The strategy had the desired effects, as Universal offered to have her on staff. For this house,  Sara Shane was cast in Obsession and Attila, King of the Huns , both directed by Douglas Sirk .

In the aforementioned  A King for Four Queens  (1956), directed by Raoul Walsh , Sara Shane played Oralie McDade, one of four young widows— Eleanor Parker , Jean Willes , and Barbara Nichols are the others—who live with her mother-in-law ( Jo Van Fleet ) at a ranch where loot from a robbery was hidden, which Clark Gable ‘s character goes after . For its part,  Tarzan’s Great Adventure was Gordon Scott ‘s fourth film as the King of the Apes. In Jane’s absence, Tarzan had an affair with model and pilot Angie Loring, a character he played to Sara Shane.

In the 1960s his film career languished, so he dedicated himself to appearing in numerous television series, such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents . Divorced from William Hollingsworth, a real estate magnate, in 1957, she fathered her only child, Jamie.
