Early life
Evans was born as Sara Lynn Evans on February 5, 1971 in Boonville, Missouri, United States. She has an American nationality belonging to the white ethnicity. She is of Welsh, English, Irish, and Native American descent.
Evans is a daughter of Jack Evans (her father) and Patricia Boggs (her mother). She has two sisters namely Lesley Evans Lyons and Ashley Evans Simpson and a brother named Matt Evans.
Evans grew up on a farm near New Franklin, Missouri, the oldest of seven children. She began singing on weekends in her family’s band at the age of five. When she was eight years old, she was struck by a car in front of the family home and suffered multiple leg fractures.
early career
Evans continued to sing to help pay his medical bills after recuperating for months in a wheelchair. When she was 16 years old, she began performing at a nightclub near Columbia, Missouri. The concert that lasted two years.
In 1991, Evans moved to Nashville, Tennessee to be a country music artist. She left Nashville after meeting fellow musician Craig Schelske and moved to Oregon with him.
Career
Evans made his debut album, Three Chords, and the Truth for RCA in 1997. The album received critical acclaim for its neo-traditional country sound, although none of its three singles reached the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
Later, Evans released several albums, which made her more popular with the public. Popular albums from her include No Place That Far, Born to Fly, Restless and Real Fine Place.
Evans was the most nominated artist at the Country Music Association Awards with a total of seven nominations. She became the first CMA award winner when ‘Born to Fly’ won Video of the Year, making it her first major industry award.

Evans married her boyfriend, Craig Schelske, an aspiring politician on September 25, 1993. She met Craig while making country music in Nashville. The couple had an affair for several years and eventually got married.
Evans gave birth to a son named Avery Jack Schelske on August 21, 1999. The couple welcomed their second child, a daughter named Olivia Margaret Schelske on January 22, 2003. They had their third child, a daughter named Audrey Elizabeth Schelske on October 6. 2004.
Divorce with Craig Schelske
Evans filed for divorce from her husband, Craig, in 2006, declaring that Schelske committed adultery and was verbally and emotionally abusive.
Schelske denied all of the claims and claimed that Evans filed for divorce the same day she found out he was having an extramarital affair. She revealed her divorce from Schelske after leaving the show called Dancing With The Stars.
The divorce was finalized on September 28, 2007. Evans paid Schelske $500,000 in alimony over a ten-year period. She has primary custody of her three children. Her former babysitter sued her for $3 million, alleging that she had sullied her name by accusing her of an affair with Schelske. The lawsuit cost Evans $500,000 in July 2009.
Second matrimony
Evans married Jay Barker, a former University of Alabama ward. The couple got married on June 14, 2008 in Franklin Tennessee with their children in attendance.
Evans and Barker currently reside in Mountain Brook, Alabama, a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama. They live together with Sarah of Schelske’s three children and Barker’s four children; Andrew, Braxton, and twins Sarah Ashlee and Harrison from her previous marriage.
