She was active for more than six decades, although she is remembered for her role as “Morritos Calientes” in Robert Altman’s film “M*A*S*H*”, for which she received an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress. . Actress Sally Kellerman died on February 24, 2022, at age 84, her son, Jack Krane, said at an assisted-care facility in Woodland Hills, after battling dementia.

Born in Long Beach, California, on June 2, 1937, Sally Clare Kellerman (actress’s full name) moved early with her family to Los Angeles, where she attended Hollywood High School, where due to her shy nature she made few friends. She demonstrated her singing skills in a performance with other classmates of the musical “Appointment in St. Louis,” receiving so much praise that she decided to send a recording to Norman Granz, founder of Verve Records. She was enthusiastic about him and offered him a contract, and although Ella sally Kellerman  signed it, she later got stage fright, and she terminated it.

After studying acting at the Jeff Corey Academy, where she had Jack Nicholson as a partner , Sally Kellerman  began her journey in the theater, and later appeared in various television series, such as Star Trek and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. She made her film debut with Reformatory for Women , from 1957, although she stood out more in The Third Day , where she gave life to George Peppard ‘s lover . In 1970, she gave life to her most remembered character, the strict major Margaret Houlihan, better known as Hot Mouths , in Robert Altman ‘s anti-war satire  M*A*S*H* ., with whom he would also collaborate on his next project, Flying is for the birds . Sally Kellerman  did not continue giving life to the character in the famous television series, where she was replaced by Loretta Swit .

Robert Altman  offered Sally Kellerman a role  in Nashville , but there was no deal, so the filmmaker would ignore her for a long time. “Bob called me at home one day. “Sally, do you want to be in my next movie?” he asked. “Only if it’s a good part,” I said. He hung up on me. Bob was as stubborn and arrogant as I was at the time, but The sad thing is that I betrayed myself by not working with someone I loved so much, someone who made acting fun and easy and trusted their actors. Divorced from director Rick Edelstein,  Sally Kellerman  joined producer and screenwriter Jonathan D. Krane in 1980. They adopted two children and were together until his death in 2016.

The actress continued to shoot films such as Welcome to Los Angeles ,  A reflection of fear  or  The Atomic Bus , from the 70s at a good pace  . However, during the following decades,  Sally Kellerman  fell more or less into oblivion, and she was relegated to films Low budget, with some contributions to successful films, such as the comedies Locademia de conductors and Regreso a la escuela . She restarted her musical career, with tours of venues in the US territory. She continued to be active until a chapter of the Decker series , from 2021.
