1. RuPaul’s name was given to him by his mother. The “ru” in its name derives from roux, a term for the base of gumbo and other Creole stews and soups.
2. In an interview, he explained that his mother always knew he would be famous, which is the reason for his unique name.
3. His parents divorced when he was 7 years old. So after the divorce, he and his siblings lived with their mother.
4. At the age of 15 he moved to Atlanta, Georgia and began his career as a musician and filmmaker in the following years.
5. His first modeling contract was with MAC Cosmetics This made RuPaul the first drag queen to land such a big campaign and he later became the first drag supermodel.
6. He is considered America’s most successful drag queen.
7. One of its distinctive features is its large stature. In an interview, he explained that he mostly wears 8 inch heels, which makes him over 7 feet tall.
8. In an interview, he stated that as a kid he was obsessed with hot rods, Cadillacs and drag racing.
