Rue McClanahan

Rue McClanahan became very popular for playing Blanche Devereaux, the seductive and flirtatious woman in The Golden Girls , one of the great television milestones of the 80s.

The actress died at one in the morning on Thursday, June 3, as a result of a massive heart attack, as confirmed by Barbara Lawrence , her manager. “She was surrounded by her family,” Lawrence explained. After her death, Bety White (Rose) is the only survivor of the famous series.

Born in Healdton, Oklahoma, on February 21, 1934, Eddi Rue McClanahan was a great student who graduated cum laude from the University of Tulsa and studied acting at the Perry-Mansfield Academy. In the late ’50s, she made a career on the New York stage.

Success came to Rue McClanahan as a secondary in the TV series Maude , where she was a divorced woman. In this series she coincided with Bea Arthur, who would later be her co-star in The Golden Girls . After the cancellation of the series, she worked on a sequel, The Golden Palace , broadcast from 1992. She was also very successful with the stage play Wicked , inspired by The Wizard of Oz , which was performed on the Broadway stage.
