Ruben Loftus-Cheek is an English professional footballer who was considered the most talented player at Chelsea’s academy even before Jose Mourinho presented him with his debut. In fact, Mourinho had claimed it would be a huge failure for Ruben as club manager if he hadn’t become a regular at the club. However, Mourinho didn’t last long and was eventually replaced by Antonio Conte who tried unsuccessfully to turn Loftus-Cheek into a second striker. He eventually decided to move to Crystal Palace to kick start his derailed progress. He was a revelation to Palast coach Maurizio Sarri has given him a number of chances on his return to his parents’ club.

In addition to training with the team, Rubenin trains at the gym to improve his game. The start of the week is particularly brutal for him as he has to do a lot of hard running and work in the gym on both Mondays and Tuesdays. He reduces his training intensity as the week progresses to stay fresh for the weekend game.

  1. In 2004 he joined Chelsea’s youth setup. He was one of the first youngsters signed by the club to help fulfill new club owner Roman Abramovich’s dream of making Chelsea’s academy one of the best in the world.
  2. At the start of the 2011/12 season, he looked poised to become a fixture in Chelsea’s Under-18 squad. However, his progress was hampered by a hip injury that ruled him out for most of the season.
  3. He finally made his appearance at the club in the 2012-13 season, making 18 appearances for the U-18 side and a further 9 appearances for the U-21 side.
  4. His good performances in the 2012/13 season secured a place in Chelsea’s squad for a post-season friendly with Manchester City in May 2013.
  5. In the 2013/14 season he established himself as a star of the Chelsea U-21 team. He has managed to win the U21 Premier League and FA Youth Cup with his team.
  6. Impressed by Ruben’s potential and ability, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho decided to promote him to the first squad in February 2015.
