Roy Denzil Hibbert is a former professional basketball player with Jamaican-American roots. He’s a two-time NBA All-Star and was honored with the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2014 while playing for the Indiana Pacers. In the 2013–14 NBA season, he almost won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award, coming in second place right after Joakim Noah.
Hibbert played college basketball for the Georgetown Hoyas and, during his senior year in 2008, he received recognition as a consensus second-team All-American. Early Life
Roy Hibbert was born December 11, 1986, in Queens, New York City to Roy, Sr. and Patty Hibbert. His dad is from Jamaica, and his mom is from Trinidad. They moved to Adelphi, Maryland when Roy was two years old. His parents tried to get him to play tennis, golf, and piano before introducing him to basketball.
In college, Hibbert played for the Georgetown Hoyas. He was named to the All-Big East Second Team in 2006 and made it to the All-Big East First Team in 2007. He and his teammate, Jeff Green, helped the Hoyas win the 2007 Big East Conference Championship. Before the 2007–08 season, he was named the Big East’s preseason player of the year.
Hibbert originally planned to graduate from Georgetown, like other great Hoya centers, but his performance in the 2007 NCAA Tournament made him a top NBA draft prospect. He declared for the 2007 NBA draft but decided to return to school for his senior year. Sadly, his college career ended with a loss to Davidson in the 2008 NCAA Tournament.

Roy Hibbert played for the Indiana Pacers from 2008 to 2015. He was drafted by the Toronto Raptors in 2008 but was traded to the Pacers in July 2008. Hibbert signed his first pro contract with the Pacers on July 15, 2008. In 2012, he became an NBA All-Star reserve for the East and set a career-high with 11 blocks in a game.
He re-signed with the Pacers in 2012 for a four-year, $58 million contract. Hibbert had a triple-double with 11 blocks in a game in 2012, becoming only the second player in Pacers history to achieve this. In 2013, he helped the Pacers reach the Eastern Conference Finals, but he faced controversy for using inappropriate language during a post-game press conference.
Hibbert was selected as an All-Star reserve in 2014 and finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting. However, he had some scoreless games during the 2014 NBA playoffs, setting a record for the most scoreless postseason games by a current All-Star. The Pacers were eliminated by the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.
In 2015, Hibbert exercised his player option with the Pacers. He was then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for a second-round draft pick. His performance with the Lakers was not as strong as before.
