Rutina Wesley is an American television actress who is known for her roles as Tara Thornton on the HBO series.
Wesley has appeared in several movies including True Blood, The Cleveland Show, Generator Rex, The Cleveland Show, Hannibal, Broad Squad, Arrow, and Queen Sugar.
Early age and education
Rutina was born on February 1, 1979 in Las Vegas, United States. Her parents were Ivery Wheeler and Cassandra Wesley. Her father was a professional tap dancer and her mother was a showgirl.
Wesley joined the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Visual and Performing Arts. She joined the dance at Simba Studio and the West Las Vegas Arts Center.
Rutina missed several other auditions for college training programs and was accepted by the University of Evansville in Indiana. Due to the lack of minorities in the state, she hesitated to join the University.
She then joined the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater Performance when her grandmother suggested she take a nursing course, but Wesley insisted on continuing her education.
Wesley joined the Juilliard School and graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Wesley appeared in the David Hares Broadway play titled The Vertical Hour and appeared in The Public Theater Production. He played a minor role in the movie Hitch which was edited into the final cut.
She then made her debut in the film How She Move in a leading role by British director Ian Iqbal Rashid. She also underwent a five-week dance rehearsal period and took dialect training for the role after playing a woman of Jamaican descent.
