BIOGRAPHY OF ROMELU LUKAKU

Romelu Lukaku (Romelu Menama Lukaku Bolingoli) is a Belgian professional footballer who plays as a striker for Serie A club Inter Milan and the Belgian national team. Lukaku began his professional career at Belgian Pro League club Anderlecht in 2009, where he made his senior debut aged 16. At the 2018 FIFA World Cup, he finished as the second top scorer after helping Belgium finish third. and won the Bronze Boot Award.

 

He is one of five players to score 50 Premier League goals before their 23rd birthday and the fifth-youngest player in the competition to score 100 goals. The Belgian star started his career with local team Rupel Boom when he was just six years old, before moving to Lierse.

He transferred to Anderlecht from the Belgian Pro League in 2006 from his former club, Lierse. Since then he has earned transfers to Premier League club Chelsea, West Bromwich Albion, Everton and in 2017 he joined Manchester United.

When Lukaku turned 16, he signed a professional contract with Anderlecht which will last until 2012. During the 2010-11 season, Lukaku scored 20 goals in all competitions, but Anderlecht failed to retain their title champion despite finishing top of the standings during the regular season.

Lukaku joined Old Trafford club Manchester United on July 10, 2017 and signed a five-year contract with the option of a further year. Although the fee hasn’t been officially disclosed, an initial fee of £75m, plus £15m in add-ons, was well worth it. A day after former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney left the club to return to Everton, Rooney’s boyhood club, Lukaku’s signing arrived.

Ahead of the 2017-2018 season, Lukaku asked permission from Zlatan Ibrahimovic to take back the number 9 shirt from him. He was confirmed to have received the number on July 14.
