Rolonda Watts was born to Dr. Velma Gibson Watts, associate dean of Wake Forest University, and Roland Watts, chair of the Fine Arts Department at Winston-Salem State University. Being born in an educated family, she too has been educated.
Rolonda Watts went to Salem Academy. She was the editor-in-chief of the school newspaper while a student at Spelman College, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She graduated in 1981 from the Columbia University School of Journalism with a master’s degree.
