He has still only had time to play secondary characters, but even so, he has left quite a mark with some of them. Rodrigo Santoro has a huge projection for the future.
Born in Petrópolis, the Brazilian city, on August 22, 1975, Rodrigo Junqueira dos Reis Santoro is the son of an engineer and a plastic artist. He had a happy childhood from which he remembers details such as when his grandfather bought him a horse, which was the gift that has most excited him in his life. He studied journalism at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. When he realized that acting was his thing, he auditioned for a miniseries that Rede Globo was going to produce. They did not choose him.
He was not discouraged, and finally managed to debut in the telenovela Olho no Olho , followed by Pátria Minha , although Explode Coraçao had a much greater impact , where he had a more important role. Having become a somewhat popular face on Brazilian television, he also participated in the hit series Hilda Furacäo and Hoje é dia de Maria .
In cinema, he played his first major role inCarandiru , by Argentine Héctor Babenco, where he was Lady Di, a transvestite locked up in the largest prison in Latin America. She also had a leading role inThe Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone , adaptation of the Tennessee Williams play , where he appeared alongside Helen Mirren and Anne Bancroft . InLove Actually played an episodic character, accompanying Nicole Kidman in a lavish, over-budget Chanel No. 5 ad directed by Baz Luhrmann . In the popular seriesLost was a chef who, along with his girlfriend, murdered his boss to steal some valuable diamonds.
His most popular character is undoubtedly Xerxes, the king of the Persians, in300 , where he appeared quite transformed, with shaved hair and a nose ring. Interestingly, the character in this film was clearly homosexual, like his character in I Love You Phillip Morris , where he was the first love of Jim Carrey ‘s character .
He did some of his best work inRed Belt , from the prestigious David Mamet , where he was an unscrupulous professional fight promoter and nightclub owner eager for the protagonist, a martial arts instructor, to become a professional wrestler. He also drew attention as Raúl Castro, Fidel’s brother, inChe, the Argentine andHey, guerrilla . InYou will find dragons was Oriol, an anarchist leader, who was fighting in the Spanish Civil War.
As for his personal life, it seemed that he was very serious with the model Ellen Jabour, although they broke up after four years of dating. He has been associated –without any foundation– with Jennifer López , with whom he has shot the ensemble comedy What to Expect When You’re Expecting . And what is expected of him for the future?
