Roberto Gomez Bolanos
“Don’t let the cúnico panda!” said the protagonist of “Chapulín Colorado”, a series that gave him worldwide fame. Roberto Gómez Bolaños, better known as Chespirito, passed away at the age of 85, at his residence in Cancun, on November 28, 2015.
Born in Mexico City, on February 21, 1929, Roberto Gómez Bolaños began studying engineering at the National Autonomous University (UNAM) of the Aztec country. But he did not finish, seduced by the audiovisual world.
After working as an advertising creative, he became a radio and television scriptwriter. He began as an actor in Dos criados malcriados , from 1960. It was the film director Agustín Delgado who nicknamed him “Chespirito” because of his short stature.
His most famous creation was the series El Chavo del 8 , which began broadcasting in 1971, and became popular not only in his country, but also in all Spanish-speaking countries, including Spain. His expressions, such as “it sparked on me” or “it was unintentionally wanting to”, became part of colloquial language. El chapulín colorado , another telecomedy created and starring the comedian, also had enormous diffusion .
Divorced from the Argentine writer Graciela Fernández, with whom he had six children, ‘Chespirito’ was married to Florinda Meza , also an actress, who appeared in his series.
