Robert prosky
Hundreds of characters were played in film and theater by the prolific actor Robert Prosky. His face is quite familiar to moviegoers, though few will name him. The actor died in a Washington hospital on December 8, 2008, at the age of 77. “Everyone knows that he was a great actor. My brothers and I know that he was a wonderful father,” said Stefan Prosky, his eldest son.
Robert Porzuczek was born in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) on December 13, 1930, into a humble family. He graduated with a degree in Economics from college, and was working as a librarian while taking acting classes at the American Theater Wing in New York. He started out in the theater, with the Arena company, from Washington. He had many productions with this group when he made his film debut at the hands of Michael Mann , in Ladrón , from 1981, where he played a gangster
Since then, he’s been offered numerous roles, including the evil garage owner in Christine , the crooked judge who co-owns a baseball team in The Best , and a mob boss in David Mamet ‘s Things Change . Mamet was precisely the author of the play “Glengarry Glenn Rose”, which Prosky performed with great success on the Broadway stage, although he did not participate in the film version.
In 1960 he married Ida Hope, with whom he had 3 children. On television he gained great popularity especially with Hill Street Sad Song , where he played a police sergeant. On film, he played supporting characters in popular films such as Marriage of Convenience , Last Action Hero , Mrs. Doubtfire , Death Penalty and Sealed Chamber .
Prosky was recently performing Arthur Miller’s “The Price” in Philadelphia. Andy and John, the two sons who have followed in his footsteps in the world of acting, participated in the production. He planned to continue with the assembly in other cities this winter.
