After the most famous vampires in the history of cinema – from Bela Lugosi to Tom Cruise, including Christopher Lee and Klaus Kinski – a new immortal thirsty for human blood lands on the screens. His name is Robert Pattinson and, literally, he is already taking over the world.

Robert Thomas Pattinson was born on May 13, 1986 in London, United Kingdom. This young actor and musician –he plays the guitar and the keyboard– began in the theater at the age of fifteen, participating in amateur plays with a company called Barnes Theatre, a group to which he claims to owe his current success: “For some reason, when After my behind-the-scenes work was over, I decided I wanted to act. I auditioned for the play “Guys and Dolls” and got a small role as a Cuban dancer. In the next play I got the leading role and after that came my agent. I owe everything to that little club”.

In 2003 she met the director Mike Newell , who two years later would give her a secondary role in one of the films in the Harry Potter saga. Before, at the age of 18, he made the leap to television in the telefilm  Ring of the Nibelungs and later to the cinema with an uncredited role in  Vanity Fair , both films released in 2004.

In 2005 he participated in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in the role of Cedric Diggory, one of the students at Howards Academy and winner –along with the protagonist– of the “Triwizard Tournament”. He soon began to achieve notoriety: “One day before the premiere I was sitting quietly in Leicester Square, ignored by everyone, and the next day strangers were calling my name. Incredible.”

Two years later he returned to participate in the sequel Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix , this time under the orders of David Yates . It was in 2008 when his luck began to change as a result of the premiere of three feature films that would give him definitive popularity. We are talking about  How to Be , for which he won the Grand Jury Prize at the Strasbourg Festival; Limitless , where he played the painter Salvador Dalí ; and Twilight , the new teen hit, which has made him the cinematographic phenomenon of the moment, by publicly presenting his ‘grunge’ and disheveled appearance, causing a rage among young girls.

His role as Edward Cullen in this vampire fantasy, a role he obtained among more than 3,000 candidates who submitted to the casting, has not only elevated him as a new youth icon, but has also provided him with a successful platform to publicize his music, as that in the film we can hear some songs written and performed by himself, such as “Never Think” or “Let Me Sing”.

In 2010 we will see him again in New Moon , sequel to Twilight , where the vampire Edward Cullen will continue his romance with the deadly Bella Swan ( Kristen Stewart ).
