Robbie Coltrane was born Anthony Robert McMillan to parents Jean Ross Howie and Ian Baxter McMillan on March 30, 1950 in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. His father, Ian, was a police forensic surgeon, while his mother, Jean, was a teacher and pianist. Coltrane lost his father when he was 19, which affected him deeply, as he said it was the time he needed his father the most.
He voiced the character The Gruffalo in the 2009 animated film The Gruffalo and in 2015 again voiced the same character in the TV movie The Gruffalo’s Child. Coltrane voiced himself the character Mr. Hyde in the popular Van Helsing films.

Robbie Coltrane’s personal life
Coltrane was married to sculptor Rhena Gemmell and they have two children together. They met in a bar when his ex-wife was only 18 years old. The couple married on December 11, 1999, and gave birth to their first child, Spencer, in 1992. Their second child was a daughter named Alice, born in 1998. The couple decided to separate. in 2003 and officially divorced later.
He suffered from osteoarthritis and had no cartilage left in one of his knees. Coltrane is medically very weak and is often diagnosed with illness. He talks about loving movies that are faster, as he feels like everything is in focus and brighter in those movies.
Coltrane wants to become a director and an executive producer, since in those jobs one can make executive decisions and make others work. His hobbies include reading books and collecting and rebuilding vintage cars. Coltrane is 6 foot tall and was the first to be selected for the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by JK Rowling.
