Rob Lowe
For the young women of the 80s, it is a generational icon. His photos – along with those of Matt Dillon and Tom Cruise – hold the record for occupying more folders of teenage girls than anyone else. And although many predicted a short career for Rob Lowe, the truth is that he continues to reap success. In addition, he has left behind his youthful rebellion and has become an exemplary guy.
Born in Charlottesville (Virginia), on March 17, 1964, Robert Hepler Lowe is the son of a teacher and a lawyer. His brother Chad is also dedicated to the acting profession.
Rob began his career from a very young age, since at the age of 8 he made his debut as a theater actor, and was a child model. He also shared a school with Sean Penn and Emilio Estévez.
Rob Lowe was one of the most prominent representatives of the so-called Brat Pack, a nickname given to the group of young people who starred in Francis Ford Coppola ‘s Rebels , where he shared the screen with Patrick Swayze , Tom Cruise , Ralph Macchio , Matt Dillon , and the aforementioned Emilio Estevez. Lowe was given the role of Sodapop, Ponyboy’s ‘handsome’ brother, who worked at a gas station.
Since then, he has been typecast in heartthrob roles in productions such as The New Hampshire Hotel , What Happened Last Night? and Oxford Blues , which were all the rage among female adolescent audiences in particular.
He tried to prove himself by playing other roles with Square Dance , where he was a mentally handicapped man in love with a young woman ( Winona Ryder ). He especially highlights his work in the vindicated thriller Bad Influences , by Curtis Hanson , later director of LA Confidential . No one has ever gotten as much out of Lowe, who embodied a stylish, self-assured mystery guy who showed a weak-hearted yuppie ( James Spader ) the wild side of life.
Lowe has always been a regular character in the tabloids, which has aired his relationships with Melissa Gilbert , Nastassja Kinski , Fawn Hall (Oliver North’s secretary) and, the most notorious, with Princess Stephanie of Monaco. He also had problems with alcohol and drugs and sparked a scandal over a murky relationship with a young woman who turned out to be a minor.
Against all odds, Lowe managed to regenerate, especially thanks to his relationship with makeup artist Sheryl Berkoff, whom he married in 1991. He has had two children by her side and now boasts of being a model father of a family.
Since he has settled down, he has tried to return to the top as an actor, and he seems to specialize in the world of politics. He played a politician on Contact , and was deputy director of US government communications on The West Wing of the White House . His character as Senator Robert McAllister in Five Brothers was going to be a temporary secondary, but ended up staying due to the good reception he received.
Television lately has not resisted Lowe, as he has also shone as the histrionic film actor Eddie Nero, in Californication .
