R. L. STINE: EARLY LIFE, EDUCATION AND CAREER

RL Stine was born on October 8, 1943, in Columbus, Ohio, United States, which makes his nationality an American. Stine was born into a Jewish family of father Lewis Stine, who was a shipping clerk, and mother Anne Feinstein. The author went to Ohio State University from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1965. While at the University, Stine edited the OSU comedy magazine The Sundial.

He started writing books under the name Jovial Bob Stine which were all humor books. Later, he also created the humor magazine Bananes. The magazine aimed at teens was published between 1975 and 1984. Stine’s first horror novel was Blind Date, followed by The Babysitter, Beach House, Hit and Run and The Girlfriend. He later also became one of the main writers for the children’s television show Eureeka’s Castle. Likewise, he also tried to create another series of books before Goosebumps, called Fear Street. Finally, in 1992, Goosebumps was released. The book was also turned into a television show which ran for three years.
