RICKIE FOWLER: EARLY CHILDHOOD AND EDUCATION

Rick Yutaka Fowler was born on December 13, 1988. The child born in Murrieta, California was raised by his parents Rod, owner of a trucking company and his mother Lynn. He grew up with his sister Taylor in a relatively well-to-do family who loved to compete in bike games.

Rickie’s dad was a dirt runner and for a while he followed in the same footsteps. However, he suffered an accident while still in his high school. This forced Fowler to stop riding, and then he began to learn golf from his grandfather. In 2005 he won the Western Junior and went on to win the 2007 Walker Cup for Team USA.

For his education, Rickie went to join Murrieta Valley Secondary School. In his senior year at school, he won the SW League Finals and then in 2007 he also helped his team in the State Finals. Fowler then went on to Oklahoma State University for his graduate studies and it was there that he won the Fighting Illini Invitational.

In June 2007 Rickie won the Sunnehanna Amateur and then the Players Amateur. He defended those titles in 2008 and again helped Team USA defend their Walker Cup.

This amazing young talent made his professional debut in 2009. He played at the Albertsons Boise Open on the Nationwide Tour. Next, he made an appearance for a charity match, “Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Children Open.” It was his first professional PGA Tour event, where he tied for 7th.

In October 2010, Fowler became the youngest American player to play in the Ryders Cup. He was also the second youngest overall after golf legend, Sergio Garcia . He made a mistake on matchday one but made an impressive comeback nonetheless. His performance on the final day was simply exquisite. Fowler won the “Rookie of the Year” award for his work on the final day.

In October 2011, Rickie recorded his first professional win at the Kolon Korea Open on the OneAsia Tour. He also scored his first PGA Tour victory in May 2012 in Charlotte. It was a remarkable victory for this young guy which propelled him to 24th place in the world rankings.

In 2016, he edged out Belgian Thomas Pieters at the HSBC Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. He was a runner-up in the event and ranked 37th at Rio 2016.

Most recently, in November 2017, he finished second in the OHL Classic in Mayakoba. He won the Hero World Challenge in December and finished T11 in 2018 with three birdies for the Waste Management Pheonix Open.
