The talented author/traveler was born on May 10, 1955 in Barstow, California, United States. He was born as the son of parents Dick Steves and Juna Ema Steves. Her father was a high school band director and piano technician while her mother was a housewife. He grew up with his two sisters; Jan and Linda Steves. He sees American nationality and has Norweigan ethnicity.

In 1967, the family moved to Edmonds, Washington and took him to Europe at the age of fourteen on a trip to Europe. Moreover, it was around the time when he started to be curious to know more about Europe. As for education, he graduated from the University of Washington in business management and majored in European history.

RICK STEVES: CAREER AND LIFE ACHIEVEMENTS

In his early days he taught travel classes through ‘The Experimental College’ and worked as a tour guide in the summer. He also worked as a piano teacher and wrote his first edition of Europe Through the Back Door (ETBD) and self-published the first edition in 1980. Then in 1991 he hosted his first TV show ‘Travels in Europe with Rick Steves”. Followed by his second show ‘Rick Steve’s Europe’ in 2000.

He has written several books like guides, city and regional guides and conversation guides. In addition, he had co-authored the book “Europe 101: History and Art for Travelers” which won the International Bestseller Guide in the United States in 1999. Additionally, he runs his own production company called “ Back Door Productions” for which he also writes and produces television shows.

Along with his writing, he has also extended his career to radio, newspapers and mobile apps. He created and hosted the radio show “Travel with Rick Steves” in 2005. Subsequently, he became a columnist in a syndicated newspaper in 2006. Additionally, he also extended his political advocacy and campaigned with Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign. He also sits on the Advisory Council of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.

RICK STEVES: PERSONAL LIFE, WIFE AND DIVORCE
