BIOGRAPHY OF RICK CLUNN
Rick Clunn is an American professional bass fisherman. He won the Bassmaster Classic tournament four times, in 1976, 1977, 1984 and 1990, tying him with Kevin Van Dam for the most Bassmaster Classic wins. Clunn is considered one of the greatest anglers of all time, having placed in the top 10 in more than 100 tournaments and winning seventeen. He was voted fisherman of the year 1988 by the organization BASS. In 2001 Clunn was inducted into the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame.
Clunn broke his own record on February 12, 2019, as the oldest angler to win a Bassmaster Elite Series event at age 72.
On the final day of competition on the St. Johns River, he caught two big mouths over 9 pounds to cement his victory.
Clunn first set the record on March 20, 2016, also on the Saint John River. He won the tournament with a four-day total weight of 81 pounds, 15 ounces.
With the win, Clunn became the oldest person to win a Bassmaster tournament at age 69, until breaking that record again in 2019. Clunn claimed his victory with a near-record one-day catch of 31 pounds, 7 ounces in Saturday’s semifinal. He has appeared on Comedy Central The Daily Show , as well as numerous fishing shows and bass magazines.
