In 2013, Blanco was named the inaugural poet to perform at the United States Presidential Inauguration Ceremony for President Barack Obama for his second term as President of the United States. He read his poem ‘ One Today ‘, becoming the first born Latino poet, the first openly gay and the youngest to perform at the ceremony.
Blanco is also an educator and has taught at Georgetown University, Central Connecticut State University, American University, Wesleyan University, Colby College, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and Carlow University.
