Richard Anderson
“We have the capacity to manufacture the world’s first bionic man,” said the television character of the series that made him popular.
But before Richard Anderson , born in Long Breach, New Jersey in 1926, and who served in the army during World War II, began working in a large studio, the Metro, from below, working even distributing the mail to the different departments. . But his desire was to act – he had studied at the Actors Laboratory in Los Angeles – and he was gradually satisfied. Thanks to his presence on an NBC program called “Lights, Camera, Action”, he received a call in 1949 from Cary Grant himself . He and his wife had seen him, and they thought he would make a terrific comedic actor. He invited her to eat at the Metro, and got her a test that allowed her to be in almost thirty movies.
In cinema, thanks to the fact that it was transferred to United Artists, I can see a mythical anti-war film, Senderos de gloria (1957), where he played under the orders of Stanley Kubrick the accusation against three soldiers, who have been taken to court martial during the first World War. He would return to the fictional army in Seven Days in May (1964), by John Frankenheimer , who also directed him in Diabolical Plan (1966). Always as a highly effective secondary, other notable film titles in which he was involved are Scaramouche ( George Sidney , 1952), Tres amores ( Vincente Minnelli , 1953),Forbidden Planet ( Fred M. Wilcox , 1956), The Long Hot Summer ( Martin Ritt , 1958), and Criminal Impulse ( Richard Fleischer , 1959).
However, his popularity came mainly from television, his face would become very familiar in homes thanks to the seventies series The man with the six million dollars and the spin-off The bionic woman , where he was the head of a government scientific organization. Although he had previously been a key character in the outcome of the mythical series The Fugitive (1963), he was the brother-in-law of the persecuted Dr. Kimble, falsely accused of killing his wife. Other series through which he walked are Perry Mason , Valley of Passions and Dynasty . In the 90s he had an occasional appearance in tv-movies, in addition to acting as a narrator in the series Kung Fu: The Legend Continues..
Richard Anderson was married twice, to Carol Lee Ladd, stepdaughter of Alan Ladd , and to Katharine Thalberg, daughter of producer Irving Thalberg, who bore him three daughters, but both marriages ended in divorce. The actor collaborated in charitable associations, being especially sensitive to war veterans.
