Rhys Wakefield is an Australian actor, film director and screenwriter best known for his role as Lucas Holden on the long-running Australian series Home and Away where he acted in 363 episodes. He won the acting scholarship at McDonald College of Performing Arts in 2003 and was able to perform with the Australian Ballet and Opera in Australia. During the cast of Home and Away he became embroiled in a controversial storyline which the Australian Broadcasting Authority reclassified as a PG for noting that scenes had broken the Australian Broadcasting Code.
Rhys was the lead in James Cameron’s 2011 disaster survival thriller, Sanctum . He starred in the third season of HBO’s True Detective (2014), an American crime drama written by Nic Pizzolatto. He played the suave leader in the American action horror The Purge which is a 4 movie and 1 TV series franchise. Rhys was one of the main characters in the 2008 Australian comedy drama The Black Balloon starring Toni Collette, Luke Ford, Erik Thomson and Gemma Ward. His directorial debut for a feature film is the 2009 comedy horror film Berserker which he co-starred with Nick Cannon, James Roday, Nora Arnezeder and Jack Falahee.
He has also appeared in short films such as Der Spiegel and Purify the Air in 2008 and Scent in 2009 among others. He co-wrote and directed the short film A Man Enters a Bar 2013 which was a finalist at the Tropfest International Short Film Festival in Sydney, Australia in 2013.
