Rhys Ifans
Rhys Ifans will always be, for better or worse, Hugh Grant’s nice unpresentable friend in Notting Hill , the anti-glamour note of that romantic comedy with Julia Roberts. But the Welsh actor has quite a presentable filmography.
Rhys Owain Evans, better known as Rhys Ifans, was born in Haverforwest, Pembrokeshire, in Wales, United Kingdom, on July 22, 1967. Apparently his native language is Welsh, although it is presumed that his parents, both teachers , they would also teach him to manage in English. Being drawn to acting early on, he attended classes at Theatr Clywd, and then at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
His command of Welsh helped him… to work on Welsh television, so that in 1990 he presented the “Stwnsh” contest, note the large number of vowels that the word has. The man did TV and theater, but he did not paint the thing to think that his career would take off as he has done. Under the direction of Welshman Anthony Hopkins , he filmed August (1996), an adaptation of a Chekhov play, which was followed by Twin Town (1997), a Welsh comedy where he was accompanied by his brother Llyr Ifans, whose acting career has not taken off. the same shape as yours. After accompanying Meryl Streep in the umpteenth change of her accent, the Irishman, in The August Dance (1998), came her filthy Spike in his boxer shorts.Notting Hill ( Roger Michell , 1999), which gave much play as a comic counterpoint to the unlikely love between a shy bookseller, Hugh Grant , and a Hollywood star, Julia Roberts . The character charmed the public, and earned him a Bafta nomination for best supporting actor.
From this moment on, Ifans, who is by no means a typical heartthrob, does not stop working, he is seen as the perfect supporting role –in fact, his leading role in The Trail of Betrayal (2000) ended in failure– in comedies like the sporty Equipo a la fuerza or the “diabolical” Little Nicky , both from 2000. In 2001, prestigious filmmakers like Michael Gondry – Human Nature , where he does, never better said, the monkey – and Lasse Hallström – Tying the Dots . And so, he signs up for the adaptation of La feria de las vanidades (2004), he does with Penelope Cruz , among others, High Society (Chromophobia)(2004), visits Elizabethan England in Elizabeth: The Golden Age , meets a certain cannibal in Hannibal. The Origin of Evil (2007) and shares the magic with The Magical Nanny and the Big Bang and Harry Potter and the Evil Hallows (Part 1) . Perhaps the most important title in which he has been involved in the first decade of the third millennium is the timeless and hypnotic The possible lives of Mr. Nobody ( Jaco Van Dormael , 2009), although his role is secondary.
About the actor’s personal life, it is known that he was linked to Sienna Miller , and even announced his commitment, but in the end the thing came to nothing. He now has two films in the pipeline that can do a lot for his career. One is Anonymous ( Roland Emmerich ), a daring film that denies William Shakespeare authorship of his works, to grant it to the Earl of Oxford, precisely the character played by Ifans. And besides, he is going to be the villain on duty in the new version of the adventures of spider-man, The Amazing Spider-Man , nothing more and nothing less than the evil Lizard.
