Reno Omokri, Shehu Sani, Two Ex-Govs Set for Top Diplomatic Posts

The Federal Government is on the verge of making a bold diplomatic move by appointing several well-known political figures as ambassadors. Among those being considered are former presidential aide Reno Omokri, former Senators Shehu Sani, and ex-governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
Insiders close to the presidency have confirmed that all four are currently undergoing rigorous background checks and security screenings by the Department of State Services (DSS), a mandatory process before their appointments can be made public.
This development comes almost a year after Nigeria withdrew all its ambassadors from foreign missions, sparking criticism over a growing diplomatic vacuum. The move to send new envoys now appears aimed at re-establishing Nigeria’s presence on the international stage.

The résumés of the potential ambassadors have reportedly been submitted to the appropriate authorities, and vetting is in full swing.
A top government official, speaking anonymously, said, “The DSS is doing its due diligence. Only those who clear the screening will be officially named. We expect the announcement to be made before the end of April.”
If approved, these appointments could mark a significant return to frontline diplomacy for the nominees and signal a shift in how Nigeria plans to engage with the rest of the world.
