Rappers who deserve more credit

Published

on

Rap music will always have the most honest lyrics from the underrated artists and independent labels. Hip hop culture has evolved so much over its existence. Rap artists are releasing new material now more than ever. The Internet has helped many young people to be heard. But with good comes bad. When many people have the space to show off their new music, good artists can be brushed aside without even realizing that it is quality music. Probably because the funded promotions of the big labels in the music industry are overflowing and the underground artists can’t keep up with their forced promotion.

Rap enthusiasts can easily create a list of rappers that deserve more attention from the media than what they have. Of course there are many that can be mentioned. But here are some of the music creators who have put the time, money, and effort into their careers. Experience the independent music that doesn’t have honest rhymes over unique beats like any other commercial hip-hop.

Homeboy Sandman

Queens, NY will always be among the areas that produce quality copywriters. Homeboy is an artist signed to Los Angeles label Stones Throw in 2012. His debut project was Betreff but he had done a few projects before signing with this label like Nourishment (2007), Actual Factual Pterodactyl (2008) and The Good Sun (2010). His album FlureThis was released in 2014 and is Sandman’s fifth studio project. In addition to his phenomenal writing and amusing flow, Homeboy is a contributor to Huffington Post and Gawker. He gives his opinions on numerous subjects and his most controversial article was Black People Are Cowards. There are no titles about guns and alcohol in his albums, as he is lyrically sharp on social and moral issues.

Freddie Gibbs

Freddie’s work has become more visible with every project he does. Gibbs attracted public attention with his mixtapes Full Metal Jackit (2004) but the album ESGN , released in 2013, made him stand out from everything he did before. Hailing from Indiana, he is compared to 2Pac’s style by many, being influenced by thug life and hardcore lyricists like Scarface and DMX. In 2014, Freddie and Madlib teamed up to release Pinata under Madlib Invazion . The album peaked at number 38 on the US Billboard 200 and on numerous Top Rap Albums lists.

Roc Marciano

Decon Records is the label that satisfies the hunger of rap fans with Marciano’s lyrics and beats. Roc is a New York based rapper and record producer who displays exceptional flow. He mainly makes his own beats that perfectly suit his style and flow. Many people don’t know that he is a former member of Busta Rhymes’ Flipmode roster and has worked with Wu-Tang and Pete Rock in the past. Roc has made three studio albums: Marcberg (2010), Reloaded (2012) and Marci Beaucoup (2013). The Alchemist, Oh No, Evidence, Action Bronson and Ka have collaborated with him. Marciano’s authentic slow flow and brisk speaking will have you hearing his words over and over again.

Proofs

The Advanced Races party member is arguably the best West Coast lyricist with an East Coast influence. Evidence is a Los Angeles rapper notable for having two solo albums, The Weatherman LP (2007) and Cats and Dogs (2011). He is now preparing to release a new solo album. In 2014, his crew released their long-awaited album Directors of Photography. It was very well received by the independent music audience. Evidence features a slow flow and a calm way of creating images with his voice. He works a lot with his best friend, the alchemist. The evidence is heavily influenced by photography as his mother was a great child photographer. He is a Grammy Award winner for his collaboration with Kanye West.

MF DOOM

MF Doom is an artist who will hardly receive the recognition he deserves. His work has influenced many young artists such as Earl Sweatshirt and Tyler, The Creator. He is also a producer who has released numerous beat tapes and collaborative albums. The British-born rapper has worked in collaborations with Danger Doom, Jneiro Jarel and Bishop Nehru. In 2003, MF Doom was formed to showcase King Geedorah and Viktor Vaughn ‘s diverse lyrical personalities. The masked rapper made the most outstanding classic rap album Madvillainy with a stone’s throwProducer Madlib, which was released in 2004. He was also in the news that he used stand-ins to perform at his concerts on his behalf, which was acknowledged by his manager.
