Rance Howard
Veteran actor Rance Howard, who played numerous supporting roles over the decades, passed away on November 25, 2017 at the age of 89. His granddaughter, Bryce Dallas Howard, succeeds as an actress in titles like “Jurassic World,” while two of his sons, Clint Howard and Ron Howard have gone into both acting and directing.
The latter, responsible for titles such as A wonderful mind , announced the death through his Twitter account. “He was a farm boy during the Depression, but his passion for acting has changed the course of the family’s history. We love you and we will miss you, dad”, explained the filmmaker.
Born on November 17, 1928 in Oklahoma, Rance Beckenholdt changed his name to Rance Howard when he moved to California in 1948 to begin his acting career in the theater world. He made his film debut with Frontier Woman , a forgotten 1956 western. Apart from appearing in hit series like Bonanza , he played small roles in movies, like a policeman in Cool Handy , or a farmer in Chinatown .
He also took part in some of his son’s films, such as 1, 2, 3 Splash , El Grinch or Apolo 13 . He never retired from the cinema, for example in 2013 he played Uncle Ray, one of the relatives of the protagonists, in Nebraska , by Alexander Payne . He leaves pending the release of the dramatic comedy Apple Seed , by Michael Worth, where he plays one of the main characters, and whose casting also includes his son Clint.
