- Growing up in Venezuela, he excelled at baseball. In 1999, he and his father decided to play soccer, so they returned to Colombia.
- Initially, he was bullied in Venezuela because he wasn’t very good at baseball. However, he worked hard and improved his skills drastically.
- In August 1999 he made his debut for Colombian Category Primera B (second division) team Lanceros Boyacá. He was then 13 years and 199 days old, making him the youngest debutant in Colombian football.
- Before moving to Riverbed in February 2001, he had trained at Colombia’s Millonarios Power Plant in Bogota. But they decided against buying it.
- River Plate reportedly turned down AC Milan’s $15 million offer in 2008. They had also turned down offers from Aston Villa and Fluminense.
- In 2009 he joined Portuguese giants Porto . However, he had been close to joining his rivals Benfica but the transfer fell through after he asked €700,000 to complete the move.
- In his second season with Porto he excelled under André Villas-Boas, scoring 38 goals in 42 games. His side won the UEFA Europa League treble, the Portuguese league title and a national cup.
- He joined Atlético Madrid in August 2011 when they agreed to buy him in a deal worth €40m. The deal would rise to €50m with performance-related clauses, making him the first player to score €40m in fees for the Madrid-based club.
- In August 2012, he established himself as one of the top strikers in a 4–1 UEFA Super Cup win by single-handedly dismantling Chelsea.
- Despite courting interest from Real Madrid and Chelsea, he decided to join AS Monaco in May 2013. The new French club paid Atletico Madrid €60m and decided to pay Falcao an annual salary of over €18m.
- In January 2014, he sustained an ACL injury that left him unable to represent his national team at the 2014 World Cup. Initially included in the list of 30 possible players, he eventually held a press conference to tearfully reveal he couldn’t play.
- After playing for Manchester United and Chelsea at the start of the 2016/17 season, he returned to Monaco in a consecutive year and led his side to a surprise French league title win. He finished the season with 30 goals from 43 games.
