The current monarch of Spain is Queen Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano, who was born there on September 15, 1972. She is the wife of King Felipe VI. Letizia was from a middle-class family and had a prosperous journalistic career before becoming a queen.
Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano, the oldest child of nurse Mara and journalist Jess, was born on September 15, 1972, in Oviedo, Asturias, Spain. Telma and Erika are her sisters; the latter perished in 2007 in what appeared to be a suicide. Before moving with her family to Rivas-Vaciamadrid, where she attended the Ramiro de Maeztu High School, Letizia had her education at the La Gesta School in Oviedo.
